Moving away from colorwash. After I have worked in colorwash technique for more that three years I got the feeling that there is nothing more for me in it to explore. I felt that I was not moving anywhere in my work and I was not satisfied with my quilts. Something was lacking. That is when I met the famous quilt artist Nancy Crow and started taking classes with her at the Timber Barn in Ohio, near Columbus. Nancy does not teach a particular technique. Her classes are about design and composition. Much attention is paid to shape and line, value and color. Here I am showing some small black and white studies that I made in Nancy's class (shown just as sewn together not quilted tops). The first two are quite successful (Check and Plaid), the third one needs some thinking about. These may serve as a beginning for a bigger work or they may stay as they are - just studies, something to learn from.
